At Coastal Homes & Design, we believe a home is where life’s best moments unfold. Since 1996, we’ve been honored to craft custom homes throughout Kent and Sussex County that reflect the people who live in them—blending timeless craftsmanship with modern comfort and beauty.

We keep our process intentionally exclusive, taking on seven full-service builds each year. This ensures that every project receives our full attention, every detail is thoughtfully considered, and every client feels truly cared for. Just as you take the time to get to know us, we do the same—because the best homes come from the best partnerships.

What makes us different is our people. Our builder, craftsmen, and trusted partners have been with us for decades, many for over 20 years. Together, we’re more than a team—we’re a family. And when you work with us, you become part of that family too.

Our 3-Part Process

Every home is guided by a dedicated team, with our owner and master builder, David R. Wilson, personally involved at every stage:

In 2019, David opened the state-of-the-art Design Center in Lewes, DE — a space to see, touch, and explore every detail that will make your home extraordinary. In 2024, he unveiled his own custom residence, a living showcase of the finest finishes and thoughtful design elements.

OUR TEAM

David R. Wilson

Builder and Owner

Dave started his construction career at a very early age of 4 years old as he worked on the construction job sites for his father, Richard Wilson of Georgetown. He learned everything from his father including hard work, family value and a strong love of faith. Dave’s hard work ethic and determination was instilled in him at a very young age.
In 1997, Dave branched off from his family’s business and started Coastal Homes & Design formally known as Wilson Contracting Inc. Over the last 3 decades Dave has grew a strong, stable and growing company that has been built on reputation. From custom homes, renovations, commercial jobs and insurance damage jobs Dave has continued to build a “recession proof” business.
In 2009, with the record growing water table levels throughout Kent and Sussex Counties; Dave discovered a service that was needed. He started Delaware Crawl Space Company, his 2nd company. Now nearly 20 years old, Delaware Crawl Space Company focuses on water management, structural and overall health of residential and commercial crawlspaces throughout Delaware. Dave’s discovery has led to nearly 500 annual maintenance contracts and over 1000 treated crawl spaces throughout Delaware and Maryland.
Dave’s love for investing and growing his businesses in the community did not stop with Coastal Homes and Delaware Crawl Space. In 2024 he invested, partnered and purchased DryTek Crawl Space Solutions with business partner K.C Conaway and in 2025 he formed Shore Built Construction (a pole building company) with business partner Darren Short. With a total of 4 successful companies under his belt, Dave is always looking for the next step on how he can make an impact in his community.
Dave has been married to the love of his life Angel Wilson for 29 years and has 2 children Chloe and Chase and they all reside in Lewes, Delaware.

Angel Wilson

Owner and Office Management

Angel’s initial career started with her being a NICU nurse in the medical field and is a graduate from the nursing school of Beebe in Lewes, Delaware. Angel has been the glue to Coastal Homes & Design since its inception and is the one that keeps everyone in line and focused on excellence.
She has been David’s wife for over 2 decades and was the one who had the vision to grow the family companies to the next level. Her dream of creating a design center for clients rapidly grew into reality in 2019 with the concept of a new construction division that would be a “one-stop-shop” for anyone looking to build their dream home. David and Angel wanted to rebrand their successful company and involve their children, Chloe and Chase Wilson. With Chase working in the field and learning construction the way his Dad and Grandfather did and Chloe learning the trade of interior design.
Angel continues to play a daily role in the everyday operations in Coastal Homes & Design and remains a constant support for the entire team.

Chase Wilson

Carpenter

Chase Wilson is one of the hardest working on our team. His work ethic and determination is easily passed down from his father (our builder). His attention to detail and ability to learn is contagious to others. Chase chose to come work for the family companies out of high school because he wanted to be like his father. We look forward to Chase's bright future!

John R. Ennis (J.R.)

VP of Operations and Client Management

A lifelong Sussex County resident, J.R. Ennis brings a rare combination of local knowledge, business expertise, and hands-on construction experience to every project. A graduate of Virginia Wesleyan University, he studied international business, communications, and Spanish, building a foundation for a career centered on leadership, growth, and meaningful connections.

J.R. began his professional journey supporting local entrepreneurs at the Delaware Economic Development Office, where he founded a thriving farmers’ market in Northern Delaware. He later led marketing and operations at the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce, creating programs and strategies that helped local businesses flourish. As part of his commitment to community and leadership, J.R. also developed and directed the Leadership Central Delaware Program, connecting industry leaders and fostering essential leadership skills.

In 2016, J.R. brought his business acumen to the construction world, joining a family building company where he oversaw client projects from concept to completion. Since 2019, he has been a driving force at Coastal Homes & Design, ensuring every project—whether a custom home, renovation, or boutique commercial space—is executed with precision, care, and a personal touch.

A devoted family man, J.R. places family first. His greatest pride is being the “Funcle” to his nephews, Finn and Maverick. This personal commitment to relationships and care extends seamlessly into his work, where clients experience the same hands-on, thoughtful approach throughout every stage of their project.

Ruby Wilson

Director of First Impressions

Ruby is the first to greet you at our office and design center. Don't let the abrupt bark fool you as she is our security alarm as well. She can be seen sleeping in her bed or out and about running errands with her mama. She is kindest and sweetest addition to our team!

Chloe Wilson

Designer

Growing up, Chloe was inspired by watching her father build homes with thoughtfulness and integrity. His approach to creating functional yet beautiful spaces sparked a lifelong passion in her for design. It was through these formative years that Chloe developed a deep appreciation for the art of crafting spaces that were not only aesthetically pleasing but also purposeful and enduring.

After graduating from Auburn University with a degree in Communications and a minor in Marketing, Chloe combined her creative passion with strong communication and business skills.

At the heart of Chloe’s design philosophy is the belief that truly timeless interiors are rooted in the lives of the people they’re created for. She designs spaces that are not only beautiful, but deeply functional and reflective of her clients' daily rhythms, values, and stories.

About Us

Coastal Homes & Design is more than a construction company—it’s a family legacy. Founded by David R. Wilson in 1996, our roots stretch back nearly 50 years to his father’s company, Wilson Construction. From his first days on the job site at age four, David learned the values that define us today: uncompromising quality, integrity, and a relentless work ethic. Over three decades, he has built a “recession-proof” business known for luxury custom homes, transformative renovations, and trusted commercial projects.

In 2019, David’s wife, Angel, expanded the vision by launching our design center—a true one-stop shop for clients building with our family. That same year, the company welcomed its first major leadership hire, J.R. Ennis, whose expertise in operations, leadership, and client management has been instrumental in driving growth and ensuring every project runs seamlessly from concept to completion.

Their children, Chloe and Chase, now carry the family’s vision forward. In 2025, Chloe founded Chloe Wilson Interiors, offering clients an elevated design experience—from furniture and color palettes to custom cabinetry, wallpaper, and the fine details that make a home personal and luxurious. Chase is learning the business from the ground up—leading a crew onsite daily and working side-by-side with his father to ensure every build meets our exacting standards.

Additional family members also contribute regularly to our projects, exemplifying the Coastal Homes commitment to craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail that define every home we build.

Our team is built on trust, talent, and long-standing relationships—many of our subcontractors have been with us for over 20 years.
