Like all stories begin, it starts with parents. Our builder, David R. Wilson, was born to Joan and Richard Wilson of Georgetown, Delaware. Richard has had a successful construction company (Wilson Construction) for nearly 50 years.
David started his construction career at a very early age of 4 years old as he worked on the construction job sites for his father. He learned everything from his father including hard work, family values and a strong love of faith. David’s hard work ethic and determination was instilled in him at a very young age.
In 1997, Dave branched off from his family’s business and started Coastal Homes & Design formally known as Wilson Contracting Inc. Over the last 3 decades Dave has grew a strong, stable and growing company that has been built on reputation. From custom homes, renovations, commercial jobs and insurance damage jobs David has continued to build a “recession proof” business. During the downturn of the economy in 2009, the companies owned by David continued to have steady growth. This can be attributed to his business philosophy, which is; “Building On Our Reputation”.
In 2009, with the record growing water table levels throughout Kent and Sussex Counties; David discovered a service that was needed. He started Delaware Crawl Space Company, his 2nd company. Now nearly 20 years old, Delaware Crawl Space Company focuses on water management, structural and overall health of residential and commercial crawlspaces throughout Delaware. David’s discovery has led to nearly 500 annual maintenance contracts and over 2000 treated crawl spaces throughout Delaware and Maryland.
David’s love for investing and growing his businesses in the community did not stop with Coastal Homes and Delaware Crawl Space. In 2022 and 2024 he invested, partnered and purchased Guardian Crawl Space and DryTek Crawl Space Solutions with business partner K.C Conaway. With a total of 4 successful companies under his belt, David is always looking for the next step on how he can make an impact in his community.
Angel Wilson, David’s wife of over 2 decades, had the vision to grow the family companies to the next level. Her dream of creating a design center for clients rapidly grew into reality in 2019 with the concept of a new construction division that would be a “one-stop-shop” for anyone building with our family. With David’s experience and her vision, Coastal Homes & Design’s foundation was being laid. Planning for the future, David and Angel wanted to create a company that could be a launching point for the careers of their children, Chloe and Chase Wilson. Chloe is a graduate of Auburn University where she studied Business and Interior Design. Chase has been working on the job sites learning the right ways of construction and the business from his dad.
On September 30th, 2019, Coastal Homes and Design hired its first major leadership role, J.R. Ennis. His motivation, leadership and marketing skills matched what Angel and David were looking for to grow this newest venture. With J.R. also being family, it was easy to hit the ground running. J.R., Angel, and David began to implement what’s needed to continue building a solid foundation for Coastal Homes & Design.
At the end of the day, family is what makes Coastal Homes & Design unique. Our team in the field all have a common skill-sets: QUALITY, HARDWORKING, and TALENTED. The majority of our sub-contractors have been part of our family for over 20 years and are familiar with our standards. We are extremely blessed to have such a passionate and dedicated team.
